Current educational programmes
Early Childhood Education | Ages 25

Book our 90-minute, educator-led Mini Gallery Explorers programme and/or self-guide through the Gallery. Our Mini Gallery Explorers programme provides tamariki with opportunities to enjoy, engage with and creatively respond to art and architecture through lively kōrero, a scavenger hunt and creative activities.
Primary Education | Years 06; NZC L1–4

Our two-hour, educator-led Gallery plus Taupuni Mahi Studio programmes enable Primary-aged tamariki to explore, engage with and respond to the Gallery’s exhibitions. Ngā ākonga’s intuitive responses to a range of artworks are starting points for deepening understanding and appreciation of creative processes and ideas, and for developing their own mahi toi, facilitated by our skilled educators.
Secondary Education | Years 713; NZC L4–8

A range of educator-led Gallery and Taupuni Mahi Studio programmes invite student-led responses to artworks to deepen appreciation and understanding of art and its contexts and ideas. Exploring connections between style, media, processes, contexts, meanings and personal responses, ākonga will develop and practice critical and creative thinking, while enjoying new experiences and insights.
Tertiary Education

We offer two educator-led Tertiary programmes, as well as the opportunity to work with you to design a bespoke programme in relation to the current exhibitions, supporting critical thinking and creative responses, while achieving learning objectives across a range of disciplines.
Events
Pat Hanly Creativity Awards

Together with the Pat Hanly team and Programme Director for Master of Design at AUT, Dr Sue Gallagher, we shared a wonderful evening celebrating 89 Secondary ākonga from across Tamaki Mākaurau on Thu 8 Sep. There were workshops, awards and goodie bags, speeches and lots of good kai in the beautiful Mackelvie Gallery. Kia ora whānau.

Beyond the Walls

Beyond the Walls is an outreach programme focused on Declaration: A Pacific Feminist Agenda. Over six months, our educators, the curator Ane Tonga and artists worked with 50 ākonga from five kura to engage with and respond to the exhibition artworks and their contexts. A celebration event on Wed 28 Sep acknowledged the participants, their kaiako and whānau, and showcased the ākonga’s creative responses. Invitations to participate in Beyond the Walls 2023 will go out later this year.

Australasian Modernist Studies Network Conference
Tue 13 Dec | 5.30–8pm

Held for the first time in Aotearoa, this conference will bring together creative artists, historians and art historians, Indigenous studies scholars and literary scholars to discuss the many, varied, clashing and complementary cultures of modernity.
